Pop Talk: Tom Cruise Covers W Magazine

Posted on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in Best Film, Celebrities, Movies, Rock of Ages, Tom Cruise

A shirtless Tom Cruise channels his Rock of Ages alter ego, Stacee Jaxx, in W’s June issue, which he also covers.

Here’s what the 49-year-old actor had to share with the mag:

On singing and dancing as a kid: “You know what? I did the scene from Risky Business around the house. I would sing Bob Seger — my mother worked, my sisters were out, and I’d turn the music up. I learned how to dance watching Soul Train. I noticed that if a guy could dance, he’d get a lot of attention and girls would want to dance with him. I worked very hard at imitating those moves.”

On musicals: “[My wife] Kate loves musicals. She sings and dances, and we kind of went through the history of musicals together. And Suri loved Hairspray. With kids, you watch everything over and over; I watched Hairspray 15 times with Suri. I thought Adam Shankman did a great job directing the movie, so I arranged to meet him and said, ‘Where’s our musical?’ He came back and said, Rock of Ages.’ We went and saw it in L.A., and for me … I didn’t know how to play the character like that. I had to find my own Stacee Jaxx.”

On preparing for the role: “I needed to find out if I could really sing! Ron [Anderson, formerly a vocal coach for Axl Rose] came in and worked with me. And then I had to learn how to play guitar. I’m very good at air guitar – and air drums – but I had never played an actual guitar. After working for weeks on Stacee’s technical skills, I was thinking about the character, and I said, ‘You know what? I need a monkey.’ Adam said, ‘What the f— are you talking about?’ And I said, ‘I’m serious – I need a monkey’ [laughs]. When Stacee’s not onstage, he’s kind of sad. And I thought, This guy has to have a monkey that’s his best friend. Adam found this baboon. He sent me the baboon’s audition tape, and I said, ‘The baboon’s name has to be Hey Man’ [laughs]. Stacee Jaxx doesn’t work without Hey Man.”

Watch This: Karmin – I Told You So

Posted on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in Celebrities, Karmin, Music Exclusives, Music News, New Music, New Videos

Karmin brings their hot track “I Told You So” to life in the new Brian DeCubellis-directed video!

“It kinda pays homage to [Chris Brown's] ‘Look at Me Now,’” Amy told Rap-Up TV. “It’s got some fast rhyming in it and a catchy Middle Eastern-sounding chorus with trombones, but the music video is set in a 1950s psych ward, so you can only imagine what went down.”

From YouTube to Epic Records, the swag-pop duo’s debut Hello is in stores today!

Pop Talk: Andrew Garfield Covers V-Man Magazine Summer 2012

Posted on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in Andrew Garfiled, Celebrities, The Amazing Spider-Man

Andrew Garfield looks fresh, clean and handsome on the cover of V Man magazine’s Summer 2012 issue.

The 28-year-old The Amazing Spider-Man actor was interviewed for the issue by the original Spider-ManTobey Maguire. Here are some quotes:

Andrew on satisfying the fans: “I just feel such a great responsibility to the story and to the fans, because I know in my heart how much this character means to people, because it means that much to me. For the sake of all the people who care about it as much as I do—I want to bring the character to life and make sure they’re as satisfied as they can possibly be.”

Andrew on how he ended up being the one chosen for the role as Spider-Man: “It was pretty basic, apart from it being more dragged out and pressure-filled and dramatic than any other audition process I’ve ever been through. They like to put you through the ringer, in the respect that it creates drama and tension among a generation of actors.”

It’s the album that just keeps giving! Katy Perry has released yet another single from her Teenage Dream album, entitled ‘Wide Awake,’ and we love it! The new single really showcases her vocal abilities and has a nice melody.

Katy will debut the new song at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards, which will air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 20 on ABC.

The song was written for her upcoming film Katy Perry: Part of Me and will be heard for the first time, live on the show. Perry debuted the song “Part of Me” at the 2012 Grammy Awards. At the time, everyone assumed the song was about ex-husband Russell Brand, though Perry later denied it.

Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection was released earlier this year and features the singer’s original album as well as new tracks.
