Breaking news from Saturday’s (July 7th) Swedish House Mafia concert in Dublin. Over 45,000 people were in attendance to see SHM, with a serious lineup that included Snoop Dogg, Tinie Tempah and Calvin Harris. However, their farewell tour has been tainted by a series of violent events- a shocking nine cases of stabbings.
BBC reports that a 23 year-old man has been charged and arrested for four of the stabbing altercations. Three victims are seriously injured while one remains in critical condition. Among the violence, a man in his early 20s lost his life from a suspected drug overdose. Police are investigating all other incidents.
A spokesperson from the concert promoter, MCD has said, “”Ticket holders entering the site were subject to a search permissible by law. Every precaution, as far as possible, was taken to ensure the safety and security of the audience at all times. Despite our best efforts – with security and gardaí personnel levels well in excess of the required numbers for a licensed event of this size – there is only so much one can do to combat anti-social behaviour.”
It is a sad day for music but hopefully justice will be served. Already 30 people have been arrested and bailed after being charged with public order offenses, assault and drugs at the concert. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families.
