Although MGMT‘s still in the studio recording their self-titled follow up to 2010′s underrated Congratulations, the neo-psych rock band took some time to produce a contribution for the upcoming Fleetwood Mac tribute album, Just Tell Me That You Want Me: Tribute to Fleetwood Mac. Listening to the original “Future Games,” it’s easy to see why MGMT chose to cover it. The easy, sunny psychedelic flow of the original is similar to the vibe of earlier MGMT songs like “Siberian Breaks” and “Congratulations.” MGMT‘s version is every bit as weird and delightful as you’d imagine – a slightly synthetic, groovy odyssey. Piston-like beats whistle under a robotic voice, while distorted guitars lazily slide in and out of the fray. It sounds like it’s been produced by musically-inclined aliens, but in the best way possible. Take a listen below, and hold on tight until the tribute album’s September 14th release.
