This past week I spoke with Mia from the all girl band Cherri Bomb! She was super cool and she told me what it would be like to be in a band with only girls, which I’m pretty sure was my childhood dream!
Rachel: Congratulations on your recent success with Cherri Bomb. I’ve just got to know, female to female, how cool is it being in an all girl band?
Mia: It’s awesome! We totally understand each other most of the time. The pros of it are we have the same mood swings we understand each others emotions, we have like a telepathy between each other so it’s great it’s awesome being in an all girl band.
Rachel: How did you all form in the first place?
Mia: A few years back Julia was looking for a band and I was looking for a band and she had put an ad up on Craigslist and I had stumbled upon it. I said, “you know what? I’m looking for a band, I’ll go check this out”. I went and I tried out and I got into the band, it was awesome and we totally got along and everything. For a while we didn’t have a base player and my sister Rina played guitar and we asked her if she could pick up the base for a little while. She was only going to be a temporary fit, it was convenient she lived at the house. She’s my sister she could be in the band for a little while and then after a long time we said “Rina, why don’t you just stay in the band? You get along with us so well and you play really well”, so we kind of just kept her in the band.
Rachel: That’s cool! If two bands were to mate and your band was the offspring, who would be your mom and your dad?
Mia: Let’s go with a three-way. I would say the Foo Fighters, Muse and Paramore. Those would be our three parents!
Rachel: That’s pretty intense. What an epic mix! Tell me about putting “This is the End of Control” together. How did that go? What was the process like?
Mia: It was really great! The whole time
Rachel: So who does the majority of the writing?
Mia: It was a collaboration between the producers and us. We would get into the studio and lay down a riff or something and then start writing lyrics and melodies. It was just between all of us.
Rachel: “Shake the ground” is your latest video. What was it like filming that?
Mia: It was really cute actually. The people filming were super sweet. I knew them before hand because I shot something with our manager sam with one of the camera guys. It was a lot of fun they were super cool and we always have fun playing together anyways so it was just a blast!
Rachel: Cool! What are some of the perks of being in an all girl band, and what are some of the struggles?
Mia: Some of the perks are that we totally understand each other, telepathy and everything. The downfall is that we fight over boys and food. We have our ups and downs but overall it’s awesome.
Rachel: I want to know, what is Cherry bomb a best fan of?
Mia: If it was a color it would be red because you know cherry. If it was a personality trait I would say explosive, we’re all crazy and we have clashing personalities that just fit together all well. Cherry bomb is just one unit.
Rachel: What’s happening next for you?
Mia: After the Warp tour, which has been a blast so far. We have only been on the tour for two days and it’s already been insane we have the Lost Profits tour coming up next and we’re off to the UK Warp tour in November.
Rachel: Have you done any touring in Europe yet?
Mia: Yeah we have, a few months maybe a year ago we did a 3 week tour in Europe. It was amazing, we opened up for Foo fighters in Germany and it was so sweet. We had dinner with them and they just act like your best friends. They make you feel like family. The Europe tour was a success!
Rachel: That sounds amazing! I’m a tad bit jealous. Thank you so much for joining us here at Best fan, I wish you the best of luck with everything in the future!
Mia: Thank you so much Rachel!
