Three years following the album Veckatimest, named after a forlorn island on Cape Cod, the psychedelic folk rock band Grizzly Bear prepares for a world tour in the remaining quarter of August. Foreshadowing the untitled album release on September 17/18, Grizzly Bear‘s newest single, “Sleeping Ute”, proves worthy of the 2009 musical triumph of longing daydream melodies, calming lyrical vocals and eclectic range of electronic and classic instruments comprising the band’s previous three albums.
The song is reminiscent of “Ready Able” and “Southern Point” kidnapping attention of listeners helpless to every instrumental detail. The clash of drums followed by rhythmic hooks of jingles and temperamental changes is calmed by the gentle return to the illusory journey guided by vocalist Edward Droste who sings of sinister dreams and self bewilderment. The song, named after the Sleeping Ute Mountain in Montezuma County, Colorado is a collective taste of the humble and experimental melody anticipated in the album release in the months to come. Grizzly Bear perform at Toronto’s Massey Hall on September 26th, tickets available online at the band’s official website.
