Blake Mycoskie, founder of TOMS, the socially conscious shoe brand, revealed yesterday the new One for One product that TOMS is launching: Eyewear! In 2006 Blake Mycoskie spent some time in Argentina and realized there was a desperate need for shoes, especially among children, so he started TOMS, a One for One company. For every product bought, one product would be donated. Since then, he traveled the world in search of other products that are in need – this time deciding upon glasses as the next One for One product. On top of being socially conscious, the products are also very fashionable. The glasses and sunglasses in particular, which were made in Italy, have hand painted arms,
“Every single pair has hand painted stripes. The first stripe in the front represents you, the stripe in the back represents the person you helped give sight to—so it’s bright!—and the stripe down the middle represents Toms, who links you to the person you’re helping,” Blake says. “It’s a reminder of what you’ve done to change someone’s life.”
It’s amazing how fashion can make a difference and help do so much for people in need. The One for One movement has definitely made a difference and you can too buy shopping at TOMS for shoes or eyewear here.
