Bestfan Exclusive: Interview With Danny Fernandes

Posted on Thursday, December 23, 2010 in Bestfan Exclusives, Danny Fernandes, JRDN, Mia Martina, Music Exclusives

Canadian pop sensation Danny Fernandes recently released his sophomore album, AutomaticLUV. He just ended his Canadian tour with his CP label mates JRDN and Mia Martina and is keeping busy writing and producing song for others, particularly with his label mates. Danny took the time out of his busy schedule to chat with Bestfan about his growth as an artist and collaborations on the album. His lead single “Automatic” featuring Belly is climbing up the charts and has become a heavy hitter on the radio airwaves.

(Bestfan): Congratulations on your new album “AutomaticLUV”. How is it different from your debut album, “Intro” and do you feel you have grown as an artist?

Danny Fernandes: Of course, I mean there was a two-year gap in between AutomaticLUV and Intro, so I only got better. Also, I got to write songs on AutomaticLUV, which I didn’t get to write on Intro because Intro was such a rushed album. I feel like it’s a lot different because there is a lot of me in it.

(Bestfan): You and your brother Shawn Desman have a song together called “Feel It”. What was the vibe like in the studio? Do you look to Shawn more for brotherly advice or for advice as a fellow music artist?

Danny Fernandes: The experience was an experience (laughs). I never got to work with Shawn before and he’s great and very talented. It was quite easy actually because when two musicians who know what they’re doing and are in the same room it make it that much more comfortable and he is my brother so it made it even more comfortable. It was great. We’re going to release a song as a single and have a video for it on New Years Day.

(Bestfan): We love your song “Dream Catcher” featuring your CP record label mate Mia Martina. What was it like working with her again and will it be one of your singles?

Danny Fernandes: Yeah, it’s probably going to be the last single on the album. Mia’s great. She’s a great artist and she’s definitely grown too as an artist from the first album in my track “Nonchalant”. She’s a great girl, very kind and easy to work with. The song turned out great, that’s one of my favourite songs on the album actually.

(Bestfan): You’ve had great success in the Canadian market for music, are there any fellow Canadian musicians that you would like to work with, outside of the CP Family? Drake or Fefe Dobson?

Danny Fernandes: Yeah, of course. It is actually in the works right now. I’ve been hanging out with the boys from Stereos, so we’re actually going to be working together next week. There’s a new rock artist Neverest, we actually met yesterday and I’m probably going to do a remix of their single “Now”. I love collaborating with different artists, getting a different feel from different people. I actually work with Josh Ramsay from Mariana’s Trench on the album.

(Bestfan): You have a very smooth hip hop/pop sound to your music. Are there any other types of music you would like to pursue on future albums?

Danny Fernandes: I’m going to definitely try out the rock scene a little bit. I mean I wasn’t a fan before but I’ve started to become one (laughs), so I’m definitely going to try that out.

(Bestfan): We’ve noticed you have quite a few tattoos on your body. Which tattoo would you say was the most painful and which means the most to you?

Danny Fernandes: The most painful would have to be, I got my whole entire back tattooed. The one that means most to me is the one on my neck because it says “Bosco” which is my Godfather. He (Bosco) is also my Grandfather who passed away. It was his last name which happens to be my middle name as well.

(Bestfan): Do you have any plans in the future to work with, produce or write with your very own artist?

Danny Fernandes: Yeah, of course. I’m actually working with my little cousin Tyler. We just signed my little cousin Tyler Medeiros to the record label. He’s got a single coming out called “Girlfriend” which features myself and we just shot the video for it. I’m doing a lot of writing on his project. I also wrote two songs for Massari, which will be on his album, and it’s going to be a single. I’ve been keeping busy, you know.
